Watch Description

The Vulcain Aviator Cricket alarm watch serves as a variant of Vulcain Aviator Instrument, bringing the brand’s flagship function – the alarm functionality – to their popular Aviator model.

While Vulcain may not be very familiar among the mass watch collectors, it has generated a loyal fan base as a result of focusing on developing watches with a common feature, the mechanical alarm. In 1947 Vulcain made the first practical wrist-alarm and named it Cricket, because the alarm sound is produced with a resonance-chamber similar to that of the cricket by fitting a two-part back to the watch-case. The inner part of the back, which serves to enclose the watch-case, is responsible for generating the sound. It is struck by the hammer and oscillates to produce the sound-waves. The Cricket has become the foundation of Vulcain’s watch models since then, just like the 911 to Porsche. The Cricket is also affectionately nicknamed “The President’s Watch” because it was worn by the previous USA Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon and Johnson.

# Vulcain Aviator Instrument Cricket Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Vulcain Aviator Instrument Cricket is a pilot-inspired tool watch blending aviation aesthetics with the brand's legendary Cricket mechanical alarm complication, featuring a rugged 42mm stainless steel case, highly legible instrument-style dial with bold numerals and a dedicated alarm indicator, targeting aviation enthusiasts and collectors who value functional heritage timepieces powered by the automatic Caliber V-10 offering dual 42-hour power reserves for mainspring and alarm.

## Overall Watch Rating: 8.7/10.0

**History & Innovation Metric (9.9/10.0)** - Vulcain's Cricket alarm, introduced in 1947 and worn by U.S. presidents and elite pilots, rivals the cultural impact of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms in pioneering practical complications.

**Movement Metric (9.9/10.0)** - The COSC-certified V-10 automatic with intricate mechanical alarm mechanism and Geneva finishing delivers top-tier performance on par with ETA 2893-based elite movements.

**Material Metric (9.6/10.0)** - Premium 316L stainless steel, double AR-coated sapphire, and meticulous brushing/polishing match the build quality of Omega Seamaster cases.

**Cohesiveness Metric (9.2/10.0)** - Every element from the alarm pusher to the instrument dial reinforces Vulcain's singular Cricket identity, akin to a perfectly unified Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso.

**Dials & Design Metric (9.3/10.0)** - The textured aviation dial with oversized indices and integrated alarm subdial offers exceptional legibility and originality comparable to Breitling Navitimer aesthetics.

**Versatility Metric (8.7/10.0)** - With 100m water resistance, robust construction, and pilot-friendly readability, it transitions seamlessly from cockpit to casual outings like a Sinn 856.

**Brand Metric (7.8/10.0)** - Vulcain's century-old Swiss niche expertise and low production volumes position it solidly alongside Christopher Ward in enthusiast premium tiers.

**Complications Metric (7.8/10.0)** - The mechanical minute alarm plus date provides meaningful utility on the level of a standard annual calendar but with rarer acoustic execution.

**Rarity Metric (7.4/10.0)** - At around $5,200 secondary market pricing and limited annual output, it offers scarcity similar to early Oris Divers Sixty-Five editions.

**Functions Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Core timekeeping, date, and programmable alarm deliver practical utility matching mid-tier GMTs like the Tudor Black Bay GMT.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 9.9

## WM Collector Grade: A+

## Performance Insights: Exceptional strengths in movement, history, and design elevate this niche alarm specialist, providing outstanding value far below its $42,000 implied performance price.

## TPS Interpretation: Exceptional Value: Iconic mechanical alarm and pilot heritage outperform luxury benchmarks at a fraction of comparable pricing.
